German

I didn't know that German is a useful language in Europe until one of my teacher told me last week. She said German is widely used in many European countries, such as Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, and so on.

No wonder I heard many foreign teachers learned German before. But I'm still curious about one thing that is I wonder which language do most people prefer to use when they travel in Europe, German or English? Anyway, I think it's a good idea to learn German since it is a practical language in Europe nowadays, and maybe I would think about that.

That's right, learning the language which is useful is really important and it will also do you good in many ways!

Yes, German is the national language of Austria and one of the four major languages used in Switzerland. But English is much more useful than German in The Netherlands and Denmark. I don't know much about Belgium, but I suspect that English would be more useful there as well because half the people speak Dutch and the other half speak French, and nobody there much cares for German.

German used to be the language of science and French the language of diplomacy and society. Now, however, it is English. Maybe in the 22nd century it will be Chinese.

The best reason to learn a language is because you want to use it. I studied and learned German, French, and Japanese because I wanted to speak them all. I studied Spanish, but I never learned it. Now, however, my Spanish is much better than it ever was before. It's not that I can speak it or write it, but I can understand a lot more than I used to. I started listening to Spanish music and listening to the words. Then I read the translations and looked up all the words I didn't know.

I think a lot of foreign teachers studied German because they have German ancestors. Two of my great grandparents were from German-speaking countries: Germany and Austria. And there are lots of movies about World War II on TV in the USA, mostly about the Germans. I used to watch them all the time, and because of that, I also wanted to study German.

I would like to hear what evidneces did your teacher show you to make you believe German is very useful.

"But I'm still curious about one thing that is I wonder which language do most people prefer to use when they travel in Europe, German or English?"
-> Redundant. You can simply say "I am still curious about what's the language that many people are eager to learn when..."

You can also guess some labgauges that might be arousing people's interest to learn and explain why. This will make your paragraph more stimulating.

"Anyway, I think it's a good idea to learn German since it is a practical language in Europe nowadays, and maybe I would think about that"-> Why? And this should be "XXX is a good idea, which I may start to plan on it."
